Did you know that...

the tombstone which can be seen in the hallway of the Palace used to be on the central tower of the façade? It was created to commemorate the IV Centenary of the death of Queen Isabella I of Castile but was not placed until 1908. As the inscription says, the palace was chosen as the location because it had been the residence of the Catholic Monarchs during their stays in Cáceres. It was detached from the tower by the Civil War bombing raid of 23rd July 1937 and can be seen today in the hallway with visible damage.
